“So”, you may say, “you bought this extremely expensive piece of technology with an amazing f/1.7 lens that allows you to shoot the most beautiful crisp sharp pictures with great color rendering and you shoot blurry, badly focused night stuff that you make even more blurry in your editing. Any other camera could have done that job.”
Well, I am having two answers to that.
On the one hand it is just a joy to work with a great tool which this camera undoubtedly is. I’m enjoying the shooting experience, I am enjoying the sturdiness of the camera, I am enjoying holding this thing in my hand. It inspires me to use it, it gives me reason to shoot and it gives me delight handling and utilizing it.
I don’t use a camera for social reasons, to enhance my status or to prove how far I have come that I can afford this thing. I honestly can’t be bothered. I am not a “Leica Man”. But I enjoy using a great tool that gives me all optical and technical features and opportunities to create my images.
And that leads to the second aspect. The files that the Leica Q2 creates are just of amazing technical quality. That means in my case that I can process them in so many different and creative ways. They allow me playing with exposure, colors, textures, clarity in post which enables me to express what I want to express without being limited by file quality. They just don’t fall apart. No banding, no pixelation, no smearing (unless I want it), no suddenly appearing background patterns (as I had it often in my Olympus OMD OM1). The technical cleanliness and purity of the files enables me to do some most creative editing work without being technically limited. And that you find only in a great camera with an excellent sensor. And that is what the Leica Q2 provides.
It’s very simple. High quality files from a high quality camera. That is all.
